Advocacy projects - Children and young people in care

AdvocacyThe translation of the Children and Youth in Care – Discover Your Rights! Brochure has been provided and published by the SOS Children's Village Croatia and Forum for Quality Foster Care. This youth-friendly Council of Europe brochure is aimed at children and young people to help them understand their rights.

Knowing their own rights helps children and young people to protect them and take an active role in the care they receive.

What is the brochure about?

In the brochure, three young people tell their stories as well as stories of other children and young people in alternative care. The purpose is to help children and young people gain better insight in how alternative care works, what rights they have as young people in alternative care and whether their rights are being respected. The brochure also provides some specific examples of problems encountered during the care-taking process, which should help children and young people to make decisions and improve their communication with caregivers and social workers. Knowing their own rights and understanding their meaning in everyday life may give children and young people the strength to speak out and take an active role in their own care.
