Today we celebrate the 18th birthday!

This sunny day is a day of birthday celebration of SOS Children's Village Croatia.

In an emotional atmosphere on 25 February 2010, the association SOS Children's Villages Croatia celebrated its eighteenth birthday and received the Employer Partner certificate for the third time. More importantly, the SOS mother calling finally became a recognized profession in Croatia.

The new profession, titled children's caretaker - SOS mother, is a result of the long successful cooperation between SOS Children's Villages Croatia and the Open University Zagreb. The first generation of 25 SOS mothers successfully completed the education programme and received their certificates for the newly verified profession of children's caretaker - SOS mother.

The profession is very specific being in essence a lifestyle on its own synergizing knowledge of other fields ranging from paediatrics, through psychology and nutrition to home economics. The education programme lasts for two years with four months of lectures at the Open University Zagreb and twenty months of practical work in the two Croatian SOS Children's Villages with guidance of a mentor and expert staff.

"We are glad that this joint engagement has been achieved in the year when we are celebrating our adulthood, 18 years of the founding of SOS Children's Villages Croatia. Our adulthood is recognized also with the certificate for excellence in the processes and development of human resources for the third year now. The certificate Employer Partner is awarded to organizations who, regardless of their size and public exposure, are meeting the high standards of the human resources management.'

"We are exceptionally proud with the Employer Partner certificate as it stands to recognize the years of hard work, dedication and determination of all our co-workers toward the wellbeing of our children - our future," said the national director Višnja Tuškan-Krupić.
