SOS Children's Village celebrates Children’s Week

Children’s Week, usually celebrated in SOS Children's Village Lekenik at the beginning of every October, was especially festive this year – we also celebrated the 15th anniversary of SOS Kindergarten in Lekenik and the 17th anniversary of SOS Children's Village Lekenik.

This year’s Children’s Week honored the fact that 2010 has been declared the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.
Children’s Week aims to educate children from the SOS Children's Village and other Lekenik residents of all ages about various situations tied to the topic of the week that they might encounter in daily life, through the use of workshops and lectures. For example, children from our kindergarten made topical didactic objects and costumes for the theatre play under the expert guidance of their teachers.

“Despite the crisis and many spending cuts everywhere, we must never stop investing in children. Poverty hits children the hardest, it endangers their chances of survival and development and leads to many violations of their rights. Children in Croatia face all of these problems too and they need our urgent help and support, because if we fail to provide for them in their childhood, making up for it later in life will be next to impossible”, said Višnja Tuškan-Krupić, National Director of SOS Children's Village Croatia, at the start of the celebrations in SOS Kindergarten.

Thanks to the support of good people who help us in our work, SOS Children's Villages and our kindergarten have been doing everything in their power to ensure the best for our children for many years now. We will continue to do so in the future as well.. Children’s Week ended on October 8, with the SOS Children's Village Lekenik birthday bash. Our children drew pictures on the pavements of Lekenik and SOS Children's Village and celebrated our birthday by tucking into a big birthday cake.
