The Fabijan Šovagović Theatre Festival in SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci

Yesterday, SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci hosted a theatre extravaganza dedicated to the memory of Fabijan Šovagović, one of the greatest Croatian actors of all time. The well-established Fabijan Šovagović Theatre Festival, now in its fifth year, boasts a rich and varied program. One of the featured performances today, a puppet show by the Puppet Factory from Zagreb, took place in the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci.

The play entitled “Pea and the Princess” attracted a large audience and received boisterous applause.

This is the fifth Fabijan Šovagović Theatre Festival to be held in his birthplace, Ladimirevci near Valpovo. Admirers of Fabijan Šovagović’s work, which encompassed theatre, literature and drama, flock to this festival to honor his memory. This year, the festival will run from May 5 to May 12, and many of the performances will take place in SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci itself.
During the festival in honor of Fabijan Šovagović, also widely known by his nickname Šova, children and their SOS mothers had the opportunity to see several of the many plays selected by the festival’s organizing committee.

“Fabijan Šovagović was an actor who carried Slavonia in his heart and soul, he embodied it in all his roles. We are convinced that Šova would be delighted if he could see how we continue to honor old Slavonian customs that were so dear to him. We are especially proud of our children, who continue in his steps, performing, singing and sharing their Slavonian heritage”, said Mr. Zoran Relić, director of SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci.

Taking part in the Fabijan Šovagović Theatre Festival were numerous performing groups, joined by the little inhabitants of SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci. SOS families were also proud of their little singers, who participated in the festival of child singers from the Valpovo region, “Up and Coming Little Stars”. Lastly, our handyman Drago organized the biggest ever “Faboš’s Merry Cauldron” during this year’s traditional fish stew competition.

Grown up inhabitants of the Children's Village joined forces with the other adults from Ladimirevci to raise the awareness of values and importance of one’s own tradition and region among children who will soon be active members of the community themselves.
