Celebrating the 14th anniversary of SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci

On Wednesday, May 25, we celebrated the 14th official anniversary of SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci. This year’s festivities were hosted by 80 children from SOS Village Ladimirevci and 32 young people from two Youth Facilities in Osijek, along with their SOS mothers, SOS aunts, educators, child development team and administrative and maintenance staff.

Joining us at the celebration were our guests from SOS Children's Village Lekenik, as well as many other friends, all of whom provide various kinds of help that make living in the SOS Children's Village a happy and comfortable experience. Despite heavy showers that hit Children's Village in the early hours of the morning, amazing dedication and enthusiasm of children and other people involved in the program seemed to dispel the clouds and summon forth the sun. The official part of the celebration opened with the entertainment program which was prepared, with great enthusiasm, by children of different ages.

Majorettes of the City of Osijek appeared first, vowing everyone with intricate choreography, costumes and props. After that, child actors Martina, Dragana, Matej and Katarina portrayed the romantic misunderstandings of Tulia and Gromeo during the rehearsal of Cookiespeare In Worry, all under the watchful eye of their director. The play was further enhanced by the costumes loaned to us by the Croatian National Theatre in Osijek, and the stage was decorated by the portrait of the Cookiespeare, painted especially for the occasion by Anamarija, a student at the Academy of Arts in Osijek.
In the musical part of the program, Nikolina gave us her unique take on a song called “One Day, When I Grow Up”, while Marija took the audience back to the time when Tajči was the biggest pop star around by covering her hit “Let’ Go Crazy”. Our young dancing hopefuls Marino, Hrvoje, Mislav, Tomislav, Ivan, Krešo, Thomson, Patrik, Stiven and Dragan proved that break-dance remains as popular as ever. The entertainment program was closed by SOS sisters Vesna and Ema from the Quince house, who sang a big hit by the popular Croatian band Magazin.

After the entertainment and lunch, children had a wide range of fun activities to choose from. The athletically minded children had the opportunity to test their skills in football, basketball and dodgeball tournaments. The more adventurous among them were given a chance to go on a ride with the bikers from the Valpovo-Belišće Motorbike Club, who brought 4 bikes to the Village especially for this occasion. On the other side of the playground, our friends from the equestrian society Tim organized horse-riding sessions for the children. Students from the School of Applied Arts in Osijek helped to make the day more colorful by painting on canvases around the Village.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the creation of this program. We hope you had a great time and we are looking forward to seeing you again next year!
