Summer vacation in Rogoznica

Once again, children from SOS Children's Villages Lekenik and Ladimirevci vacationed in the Županja Red Cross Resort in Rogoznica. Children, SOS mothers and several members of our child development team went there for a 10-day stay. Given the large number of our children and the accompanying staff, they were divided into two groups that took the vacation on a staggered schedule.

Seventy children from the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci enjoyed their summer vacation In the period from July 27 to August 5 and August 6 – 15 respectively. Fifty children from SOS Children's Village Lekenik are still at the seaside.
In addition to swimming and sunbathing, Županja Red Cross offers a number of activities to enrich the leisure time of our children and give them the vacations they will never forget.
The excitement is especially high among those of our children who have never been to the seaside before. They had the opportunity to learn swimming under the guidance of a swimming instructor in the swimming school that took place every day in the mornings and afternoons, while our other children attended the advanced swimming lessons to improve their skills. At the end of the vacation, all attendees received diplomas and special acknowledgments for their achievements.

In the evenings children took part in various entertainment activities prepared by the resort counselors. For example, they threw a pajama party where all children could showcase their sleepwear. The most interesting outfits were singled out and the awards for the best pajama and nightie went to the 3-year-old Jurica and wonderful Nikolina.
Children also showed their creativity by making costumes for the masked ball with their SOS mothers. This was their chance to become someone else for a few hours. It was not easy to choose the most imaginative costume among contestants. We saw everything from cats, roosters and mice to fortune readers, belly dancers and rappers. In the end the award deservedly went to two boys, Tomislav and Thomson, who dressed as women – Rozika and Victoria Beckham. The talent show and karaoke highlighted the singing and dancing abilities of our children. Our girls Zdenka and Novela stood out the most. Their rendition of an old hit song “Let’s Go Crazy” delighted everyone in the audience, as did the dance performed by the cheerful 4-year old Dragana.

In addition to swimming, sunbathing, walks along the beach and spending time together in beautiful surroundings, children and SOS mothers also enjoyed their day trip in Šibenik, where a guide took them on a tour of the city landmarks. Children were particularly captivated by the legends about the St. Michael’s Fortress and the tale behind the construction of the Cathedral of St. James.

Swimming lessons in Rogoznica take place every day, in the morning and afternoon. There are 5 groups, consisting of 4-5 children each, in accordance with their age and prior swimming experience. Their instructor is Ms. Mara from Županja. All of the groups have shown a great deal of progress and all participants are very motivated. Two girls from SOS Youth Facility, Irena and Ana Marija, hold classes in ZUMBA dancing every evening – this type of dancing is completely new and intriguing for our children, so their classes attract more and more attendees every day.
There is no shortage of entertainment either: before the summer ends we will hold a karaoke and pajama party and the Miss and Mr. Beach contest.
