International Women’s Day in SOS Children's Villages

SOS Children's Villages celebrated the International Woman’s Day. In SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci, SOS mothers, SOS aunts, members of the administrative and maintenance staff and the child development team all got together for coffee and cake. In SOS Children's Village Lekenik, greeting cards, flowers and chocolate from the director of SOS Children's Village Lekenik were followed by a relaxing spa experience provided by the youngsters from the SOS Youth Facility Zagreb.

Director of SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci cheered up the members of the ‘fairer sex’ with flowers and funny anecdotes. As in previous years, he took this opportunity to thank them for all their hard work. Each woman received a special gift, a brooch made especially for the occasion by our children in the art workshop. Also joining the celebration was Đurđica, the first SOS mother from the Children's Village Ladimirevci to retire, who shared her new experiences as a retiree with her former colleagues.
In SOS Children's Village Lekenik, the director of SOS Children's Village Lekenik gave all the women Women’s Day greeting cards, flowers and chocolate and they also enjoyed a relaxing spa experience that the youngsters from the SOS Youth Facility Zagreb arranged for them. As a Women’s Day surprise, girls from the SOS Youth Facility Zagreb, Kristina, Ljubica and Đurđica, gave all SOS mothers and aunts massages, manicures and new hairstyles.
We are proud of the fact that our daily life and work takes place in an organization where gender equality is actively promoted, and we see the International Women’s Day as a way to send the message that other work environments should also uphold the values of equality, mutual respect, mutual assistance and emotional openness. All of these are also the values we teach to the children living in our SOS families.
