Let’s Welcome the Storks event marks the first day of spring

With the help of our friends from the Lekenik Tourist Board, the Lekenik Municipality and the Lekenik Local Committee, SOS Children's Village celebrated the return of storks to Turopolje and the first day of spring, by putting together the environmental and cultural event called LET’S WELCOME THE STORKS.

Our little writers and artists welcomed the returning storks and the arrival of spring, and Lekenik musicians greeted them with a song.
This year, the environmental and tourist-oriented event LET’S WELCOME THE STORKS had an interesting cultural and artistic program. It was prepared by the SOS Children's Village and performed in front of the old wooden house in Turopolje Street.

Standing in front of Marija Dušek’s family house, the Lekenik children and their friends from Zagreb and Sesvete welcomed the arrival of spring with the spring-themed works of art, presentation of folk customs and recital of old songs. The visitors loved the drawings and literary works by students from elementary schools Lauder-Hugo Kon from Zagreb and Brestje from Sesvete, but no one cheered the returning storks louder than the little writers and artists from our very own SOS Children's Village.

“This environmental and tourist-oriented event has already become our traditional way of welcoming the spring and storks back to our region. It’s also an opportunity to remember folk customs, songs and cultural and tourist offerings of this region in the company of our friends. As heralds of winter’s end, storks represent the joy of the awakening nature, bringing happiness to our children who dream of spring in their writing and art. It is no wonder we enjoy celebrating this day so much”, said Mr. Mario Čović, director of SOS Children's Village Lekenik.
