We celebrate the World Theatre Day

With the help of friends from the Lekenik Tourist Board, SOS Children's Village Lekenik celebrated the World Theatre Day by putting on a special show performed by the little actors from SOS Children's Village Lekenik Little Fairy Tale Theatre, students from the elementary schools Brestje-Sesvete and Lauder-Hugo Kon from Zagreb, and high school students from the 16th Gymnasium in Zagreb. Supporting them were famous Croatian film, TV and theatre actors Bojana Gregorić Vejzović, Vedran Mlikota, Goran Navojec, Boris Svrtan and Kristijan Ugrina.

Students from the elementary schools Brestje-Sesvete and Lauder-Hugo Kon from Zagreb, and high schoolers from the 16th Zagreb Gymnasium gave recitals and performed in brief sketches. The central event of the program was the reading of the fairy tale The Miller’s Cat, by Rusmir Agačević. Children listened in awe as famous Croatian actors Bojana Gregorić Vejzović, Vedran Mlikota, Goran Navojec, Boris Svrtan and Kristijan Ugrina read the tale, and later on shared the little secrets of their wonderful craft with the audience.

Helping them read the tale were the director of SOS Children's Village Lekenik Mario Čović, pedagogue Aleksandar Nađ, director of elementary school Lauder-Hugo Kon Jasenka Rafaj, artist Neda Mrđan, drama club instructor from the elementary school Brestje Ankica Kljajo and the author and former host of the cult TV series The Sunday Magazine, Rusmir Agačević. We could not have chosen a better way to celebrate the World Theatre Day than sharing the joy of performing and beauty of poetry with children, especially the children from the SOS Children's Village Lekenik.

“With this event we celebrate the World Theatre Day together with our dear friends and collaborators, with whom we cultivate the beauty of the written word and dramatic expression. Our program “Building Self-Esteem Through Performance” encompasses drama, literature, music, dancing and art, and our creative work with children has already won widespread acclaim”, said Mr. Mario Čović, director of the SOS Children's Village Lekenik.

“We enjoyed a lovely evening of theatre and carried out a noble mission”, added the actor Goran Navojec. While opening the event, Božidar Antolec from the Lekenik Tourist Board read out this year’s World Theatre Day messages by John Malkovich and Pero Kvrgić. Children also joined in, by reading their own messages.
