Children from SOS Children's Village Croatia celebrate the International Museum Day

Art has always played a big part in SOS Children's Villages. This is why our children spent the May 18, International Museum Day, in the company of genuine connoisseurs and experts from the Museum of Modern Art and the Archeological Museum in Zagreb.

The day was filled with educational workshops, lectures and games designed to show that museums and similar cultural institutions are not reserved only for serious grown-ups, but can be places to play and have fun.
In collaboration with the Archeological Museum in Zagreb, we organized a day trip to the Varaždin Spa, where children from SOS Children's Village Lekenik took part in the 17th educational campaign Water, ran by the Department of Museum Pedagogy and Cultural Campaigns, and attended the lectures and educational exhibition: AQUAE IASAE – in the Varaždin Spa. The goal of this collaborative effort was to demonstrate to young children that museums are not intended only for grown ups.

Archeological Museum opened its doors to the children from SOS Children's Village by offering a series of workshops, games and lectures, but they also honored SOS Children's Village by attending the 20th anniversary of SOS Children's Village Croatia.
Continuing the theme of water, the Museum of Modern Art invited SOS Children's Villages Lekenik and Ladimirevci to take part in the children’s art exhibition dedicated to water. Children spent a lovely day touring the museum. The biggest attraction of the day was the giant slide in the museum building. Children also saw their own works on display while touring the exhibition with Snježana Pintarić, the Museum director.

“Works submitted by the children from SOS Children's Village Croatia were truly wonderful, and I thank them for their gift, hard work and the time they decided to share with us and our visitors”, said Nada Beroš, senior curator at the Museum of Modern Art.
