The Most Beautiful Fairy Tales for Children campaign is launched

Drawing and reading fairy tales are two of the children’s favorite activities, which is why SOS Children's Village Croatia has decided to launch a campaign called “The Most Beautiful Fairy Tales for Children”. The goal of the campaign is to nurture children’s imagination and creativity and to enable children to participate in the contest “Illustrations for the Most Beautiful Fairy Tales for Children” with their own drawings.

The contest is open to all children of preschool and school age under 14. We invite all eligible children to submit their entries during the period between September 1 to September 27, 2012, by sending them to the following address: SOS Children's Village Croatia, Zavrtnica 5/III, 10 000 Zagreb.

All participants should select one of the fairy tales on the list and draw characters from their chosen tale as they imagine them. All drawing materials are allowed, such as pencils, crayons, felt tips, tempera, water colors and all other materials. The size of the submitted drawing cannot exceed the A3 format.

All entries submitted by the specified deadline shall be published in an online gallery. Works that collect the most votes in the period between October 1 and October 14 will be published as illustrations in the book The Most Beautiful Fairy Tales for Children, which will be printed and released for general distribution. All authors of the illustrations in the book will receive a free copy.

“Fairy tales allow us to engage in all kinds of adventures and to do so in the safest possible way – by using our powers of imagination. Fairy tales also serve as a way of freeing children’s imagination and make a huge difference in children’s development, because lead characters in fairy tales – many of whom are children themselves – possess personal traits and abilities that help us to stand for ourselves and come out as winners. Fairy tales are always with us. They are in constant flux, changing with the times, and we wanted to make sure children can be part of these changes through their own art”, said Mario Čović, director of SOS Children's Village Lekenik.

Fairy tales have been enchanting children for many generations, offering them engaging scenarios that carry them away to fantasy worlds. Gradually learning how to understand oneself and others better is part of every child’s development. Fairy tale is the perfect literary form to help children develop their cognitive and creative awareness, adding another dimension to this important project.
