Woman’s Day in SOS Children's Villages

Co-workers of SOS Children's Villages gathered to celebrate the International Woman’s Day. The entertainment program put special emphasis on recognizing the SOS mothers, SOS aunts and other female co-workers.

The co-workers of SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci gathered to celebrate the International Woman’s Day and enjoy some special performances by their own colleagues. Gently strumming his guitar, the pedagogical assistant Davor Vinković sang Red Roses by that eternal romantic Ivica Šerfezi, and social worker Zdravko Starčević recited the Celebration of Roses by poet Tin Ujević. Director of SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci Zoran Relić gave every woman on his staff a rose and a small gift. We all gathered on the patio of our guest house, dubbed The March Roses Terrace just for this occasion, to enjoy coffee and cake in a relaxed mood while listening to assorted Croatian songs about roses and women. It didn’t take long for everyone on the patio to join in a sing-along. Before departing, we all took part in the impromptu Ludo tournament. The director played three games simultaneously. The result? Everyone went home in a great mood.

The SOS Children's Village Lekenik continued its tradition and provided a day of pampering for our SOS mothers and aunts, at the suggestion of young people from the SOS Youth Facility Zagreb. The director of SOS Children's Village Lekenik Mario Čović wished everyone a happy Woman’ Day and then Kristina and Viktorija from the Youth Facility took over and gave all SOS mothers and aunts wonderful, relaxing massages.

We weren’t focused solely on having fun, though. We also talked about being proud of our commitment to the equality of sexes, which we live by and put into practice every day in our little community. We respect our SOS mothers and we are thankful to them for everything they give to the children who live in their SOS families. We are confident that children in our Children's Villages will grow into young people sensitive to gender equality and that these values will be the integral part of their lives.
