Marija rides again!

Our friends made sure that children in the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci would be able to enjoy the spring weather on new and repaired bikes.

On April 28, SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci received a visit from our friends in the citizen’s initiative Adults Helping Children, who came to help repair our children’s bikes. Last year, that same group of cyclists rode in a charity ultra-marathon. They traveled the 1200 km distance between Ilok and Dubrovnik in 77 hours. This campaign to repair bikes was aimed at making sure that every child in the SOS Children's Village would be able to ride safely, including our first-time cyclists.

Adults Helping Children raised funds required for repairs from the BIKE SHOP I SERVIS, T.Č.T. d.o.o., as well as cyclist organizations and clubs from around Croatia. Also joining the campaign led by Adults Helping Children were members of the Bike Club Kune from Osijek, who donated 10 bikes to the children.

Marija is an eleven-year old girl from SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci who loves to roller-skate and ride on her bicolored bike. Pink and white are her favorite colors. She often wears them together and that is why she chose this color combination for her bike as well. Marija is thrilled that her bike has been repaired and now she is ready for new biking adventures.

“I could hardly wait to sit on my bike, it feels brand new now!” – said Marija.

The big group of cycling enthusiasts and philanthropists arrived to the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci early in the morning to make the best of the day and have time not only for the bike repairs, but also for a get-together with our children. They replenished their energy with delicious elderflower juice and croissants baked by their own members. In the spirit of true friendship, they brought gift packages for all our SOS families, donated by OPG Rosa and Hypo Bank.
For children in the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci, just like for many other children, bicycles are their main mode of transportation. Bicycles ensure great freedom of movement, and children use them both for their daily chores and to have fun with their friends. This campaign was not the only way in which the friends of SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci contributed this year. They also helped with the general maintenance and repairs of bikes, provided spare parts and donated funds for the purchase of new bikes for children.

We still invite everyone with old, but still functional bikes to give them to us or to donate money for the purchase of new bikes for the children in SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci.
