We celebrate the Mobility Week

Children from SOS Children's Village Lekenik found an interesting way of celebrating the Mobility Week while at the same time highlighting the importance of being outdoors and preserving the environment, as well as developing healthy lifestyles and habits.

Every year since 2002, September 16 – 22 has been celebrated across Europe as the European Mobility Week, dedicated to being active. The motto of this year’s Mobility Week is “Clean air – It’s your move!”.
Children were eager to join this campaign, because they enjoy activity and spending time outdoors, in the clean, fresh air. Mobility Week in SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci opened with the Traffic Signs Tale, aimed at preschoolers, and an art workshop, where all children had the opportunity to create various vivid and imaginative vehicles.

Once the creative workshop ended, it was time to engage in physical activity. The goal was to emphasize the extent to which urban traffic pollutes the environment, and how instrumental cars are in making people more passive and damaging their health. We organized the cycling and roller-skating tours for our children. Breathing in warm, clean air outside, the children used multicolored chalk to draw motifs from nature, bicycles, scooters, even a horse or two.
Playing and laughter gave way to picking and cleaning hazelnuts and enjoying these delicious and healthy nuts. Children enjoyed themselves immensely and they were happy to share their hazelnuts with friends, SOS mothers, SOS aunts and office staff.
To end the week on a high note, we organized a Zumba work-out for all the co-workers and children in SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci.
The Mobility Week would not be complete without something to remember it by in the future, so we closed the week with the exhibition of vehicles and children’s drawings entitled “Nature and Mobility”.
