SOS Children's Village Lekenik celebrates its 20th birthday

SOS Children's Village Lekenik today celebrated its 20th anniversary amidst laughter and children playing with SOS mothers, aunties, other co-workers, friends and donors.

Before the entertainment portion of the program, the attendees were addressed by Prof. Mariza Katavić, president of SOS Children's Village Croatia, Mr. Siddhartha Kaul, president of SOS-Kinderdorf International, Her Excellency Andrea Ikić-Böhm, Austrian ambassador to Croatia and Mario Čović, the director of SOS Children's Village Lekenik.

“Twenty years have passed since SOS Children's Village Lekenik opened its doors, and we still strive to live and work in keeping with the high educational standards established by our organization, for the well-being of each child in our care. On this occasion, we take another opportunity to joyfully thank each other for our wonderful mutual cooperation, help and support, a feat of togetherness that paved the way to our many accomplishments. Both our children and grown-ups involved in their care should be happy and proud of them. I welcome and thank all friends of our Children's Village, who contribute to the richness of our work and life in the Children's Village in many different ways. To children and co-workers in SOS Children's Village Lekenik, happy twentieth birthday” – said Mario Čović, director of SOS Children's Village Lekenik.

Friends from all parts of Croatia contributed to the joyous occasion with their presence, among them Ms. Tatjana Josipović, a staunch supporter of SOS Children's Villages, Zrinka Vrabec-Mojzeš, social activities advisor to the Croatian president, Maja Gabelica Šupljika, deputy Ombudswoman for Children, Ljiljana Vrbić from the City Office for Social Protection and Persons with Disabilities, Ivica Perović, the Lekenik mayor and many others friends and donors of the SOS Children's Village Lekenik.
The entertainment program began with the Croatian anthem, performed by the cultural society Kolovrat from Lekenik. Women’s choir Čipkice were next, and after them, the guests watched select scenes from the film Brave Adventures of the Little Shoemaker, which featured several children from the SOS Children's Village Lekenik.

The Little Fairy Tale Theatre actors performed several scenes from their two plays, Fiddler on the Roof and The Little Prince and the Big Pilot, the two biggest projects that our drama club undertook in the past few years. Aki Rahimovski and Berislav Blažević-Bero from the rock band Parni valjak gave a great performance at the end of the official part of the program, and the rest of the afternoon was filled with various sport events.
