St. George’s Day – the Lekenik Municipality Day

SOS Children's Village Lekenik received a commendation for its contribution to defence against flood and rescue of people and property in February 2014. Congratulations!

On Sunday, April 26, 2014, the Municipal Council of the Lekenik Municipality celebrated the Day of Lekenik Municipality, which falls on St. George’s Day, by handing a commendation to SOS Children's Village Lekenik for its selfless help in defending and rescuing people and property from the flooding in February 2014.
On behalf of the Lekenik Municipality Council, the SOS Children's Village Lekenik director Mario Čović accepted a commendation from the mayor Ivica Perović, deputy mayor Marica Zlovolić and the president of the Municipal Council Nikola Sovina.
To mark the occasion, child actors from SOS Children's Village Lekenik Little Fairy Tale Theatre performed a special St. George’s Day recital:

WHERE STORIES OF FORESTS ARE FOUND,
WHERE DELICATE HOUSES ABOUND,
WHERE HILLTIPS ARE BATHED IN SUN,
LEKENIK RESTS IN TUROPOLJE’S PALM!

WHERE PEOPLE TEND TO THE LAND,
WHERE VINEYARDS ARE GREEN AND GRAND,
WHERE LEKEN GROWS IN THE LEAS,
WHERE SWALLOWS AND HAWKS SLEEP.

WHERE CORN RIPENS AND SWAYS,
WHERE CHILDREN LAUGH AS THEY PLAY,
WHERE RIVERS EMBRACE THE MEADOWS,
WHERE PEOPLE AND WHITE STORKS ARE FRIENDS…
