Grown-ups repair children’s bikes and bring new ones as gifts

Children from the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci will remember May 11 for a long time. The members of the citizen’s initiative “Grown-ups for Kids” returned this year for their traditional bike repair day.

Helped by the numerous sponsors and partners, the citizen’s initiative “Grown-ups for Kids” and members of the NC Lions Club “Kuna” brought along three new bicycles and, impressively, fifteen second-hand bicycles in anticipation of the longest bicycle tour in Croatia, which is scheduled to take place in mid-July. The 5-day bike tour “1001 miles” will cover1660 km across Croatia to visit all homes for children without parental care and both SOS Children's Villages – Ladimirevci and Lekenik.

The Village was full of guests for the entire day and our kids were delighted by the arrival of bike clubs “Legice”, FBC Biker Radio, “My Way”, “Desperados”, “Veterani Slavonije i Baranje”, “Bike Point Valpovo”, the Police Bike Club and BC AS.
The members of the old-timer club “Fifth Wheel” from Našice drove their treasured cars through the Village, and the excitement reached its peak when Airsoft Club Raptor brought in a giant trampoline. SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci enjoyed many different programs throughout the day, and thanks to the donation of several hundred flower seedlings from the Kopačevo company “Flora Nova”, children had the opportunity to plant flowers in the gardens of 17 houses in which they live as a way to celebrate Mother’s Day with their SOS mothers. Later on, several generous hairdressers form Osijek cut and styled the hair of the SOS Children's Village kids.

Amidst ball games and bike rides, members of the Valpovo Red Cross took the opportunity to share their expertise with the children from the SOS Children's Village. They presented the key skills they use in their work. Everyone who spent last Sunday in SOS Children's Village will remember the day for a long time. The hosts, led by Village director Zoran Relić, made sure all their guests were comfortable at all times.

The entire event would not be possible without huge help from “Bike Shop i servis T.Č.T.”, Bike shop Vukovar, Extreme Sport, Moto shop and “Reca”, all of whom donated spare parts needed for the bike repair and maintenance. The organizers told us that the repairmen, cyclists and members of the bicycle club “Weekend Warriors” repaired more than 50 bikes, making them ready for the summer cycling season.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helps us bring the philosophy of a loving home for every child to life!
