Participants of the SOS Children's Village Little School of Life prepare a farewell lunch for their friends

Eighth graders who attend the SOS Children's Village Lekenik Little School of Life embarked on a culinary adventure and prepared a farewell lunch for their friends. While they cooked they received expert advice from the staff of the restaurant CHEFlja, who advised them on which ingredients to choose and how to prepare them in a way that highlights them the best.

Our eighth graders proved to be equal to the task! After several hours of preparation, they treated around 60 friends from Lekenik and the neighborhood to a delicious meal. This lunch marked the symbolic end of their elementary education and their first step towards a new, more independent stage of their life.

Chef Vladimir Šajnović took the opportunity to say: “I am pleased we had another chance to prepare a meal with these talented kids – they were great students. I hope the skills they learned will help them in their daily life. I am confident this event will turn into a lovely practice and a long-term collaboration between SOS Children's Village and CHEFlja.”

“Children in SOS Children's Villages attend various workshops we organize to encourage their development. Today’s little chefs are learning to prepare diverse menus, but outdoor cooking, i.e. barbecue, remains their favorite method of food preparation. Spending time with chef Vladimir Šajnović additionally strengthened our desire to teach our children all those life skills that can help them to become more self-reliant”, said Mario Čović, director of SOS Children's Village Lekenik.
