Burns Night 2015

Scots are back in Zagreb! The Friends of the UK Society, supported by the members of the British House, to organize BURNS NIGHT 2015 as a benefit for SOS Children's Village Croatia.

Leading up to Burns Night itself, a press event will take place in the Paris Salon of the Esplanade Hotel in Zagreb on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 11:00 AM. The event will be attended by the children from SOS Children's Village Croatia, the future recipients of the funds to be raised from ticket sales and a special game of raffle. Children will perform a short musical program featuring violins and Scottish bagpipes.
Burns Night is a celebration of the Scottish poet Robert Burns, with a tradition that goes back 250 years. The celebration takes the form of a formal supper with an entertainment programme, and for the last ten years, Zagreb has been among the cities that hold annual Burns suppers. Every year, more and more people are interested in attending. This gala event, featuring guests from Scotland, including top notch bagpipe players, is inspired by the poetry of Robert Burns and intended to foster the spirit of community and friendship among all people. The dinner will also be attended by several ambassadors and other embassy officials, Parliament members and eminent members of the international community in Zagreb and the vicinity. Interestingly, this will mark the first time that the event is sponsored by the Scottish government and the Scottish tourist board.
After the media presentation of the project, scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 17, the guests from Scotland and their Croatian friends will leave the Esplanade Hotel at 11:30 PM to take a stroll around the city centre. They will be accompanied by the bagpipe players from the Scottish band Clan Ceilidh, kitted out in a variety of tartan kilts.
On Friday, January 16, the day before the formal supper, we invite you to the BIKERS BURNS NIGHT PARTY at the Bikers Beer Factory, Savska 150, to enjoy the evening of Scottish music. The Ben Dover Band will open the festivities at 9 PM. At 10 PM, Clan Ceilidh from Scotland will take over the stage, to be followed later on by the Zagreb band Ballbreakers.
All funds raised from the ticket sales for the formal supper and the raffle will be donated to the SOS Children's Village Croatia.
