Children visit the exhibition about the world of money called “The Alphabet of Money”

An interactive exhibition “The Alphabet of Money”, designed for children and adults, recently opened in the Technical Museum in Zagreb. Children from the SOS Children's Village Lekenik, accompanied by our pedagogical assistants, visited the exhibition.

The exhibition has ten interactive stations where visitors can learn the basics of financial literacy, i.e., about the history, function and value of money, different types of trade, poverty, money saving and investments. Simple and interactive games teach the visitors how to pan for gold, how to pay off a credit loan, how to set a price on a product, what are shares and what constitutes fair trade. This is the first exhibition of its kind in Croatia – the same exhibition was already mounted in Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Romania and Serbia, attracting more than 150.000 visitors. The exhibition was initiated by the Erste Bank and Erste Group, in association with the Children’s Museum ZOOM from Vienna and the Children’s Museum FRida & freD from Graz.
Given that the exhibition is meant primarily for children over the age of eight, “Alphabet of Money” was designed as a big game. At the beginning, children get the electronic withdrawal card for their personal account, and some initial capital. As they visit the various stations in the exhibition, children can take part in important cash flow processes through play. They can perform various jobs to earn money or spend it on various services and products. Children learn about the function and role of money in our society in a tangible and active way. The multimedia quiz at different stations allows children to test their new knowledge and earn money by performing “intellectual work”. The use of interactive stations enables children to learn in a targeted and self-reliant way.
In the exhibition section on donations, you can find out more about the SOS Children's Village Croatia and how to help us.
Exhibition “The Alphabet of Money” can be seen in the Technical Museum, Savska cesta 18, Zagreb, in the period between February 21, 2015 and January 10, 2016. The museum is open to public Tuesday to Friday, from 9 AM to 5 PM. On Saturdays and Sundays, the museum is open from 9 AM to 1 PM.
