Kind hearts in the SOS Children's Village Croatia join forces to help the migrants in Strošinci

The refugee crisis in the region continues. The number of new migrants keeps growing and they all need help with food, water, basic care and accommodations, but they also need warm words of support.

Numerous volunteers are helping out in reception centers, but also at newly-formed border crossings, such as Strošinci this weekend. The SOS Children's Village Croatia co-workers also took action this weekend – the members of the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci Mobile Team went to Strošinci, where they met with tired, hungry, thirsty refugees suffering from the cold.

Joined by the director of SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci Zoran Relić and child development team leader Višnja Matić, psychologists Ivona and Ana Marija from the Mobile Team spoke to the people and distributed food, water, clothes and footwear to the migrants.

“The most difficult thing was seeing all those exhausted children suffering from the exposure to cold, wearing weather-inappropriate clothes and shoes. We prepared for this situation by asking our sixteen SOS families in the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci to set aside warm jackets, sweaters, pants and footwear and we took all of it with us to Strošinci to give to parents for their children”, explained Zoran Relić.

Our co-workers are not strangers to emergencies and working with people in need. For the past fifteen months, the psychologists from the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci Mobile Team have been running a program of psychosocial support called “We Help

Restore the Safety of Home for Children and Families” in the Cvelferija region. This joint action to help the migrants that we undertook with the volunteers from the Županja Red Cross in Strošinci is a reflection of the excellent cooperation we enjoyed while helping children and families from the disaster-stricken areas in Eastern Slavonia.
