Traveling the world of fairy tales with SOS children is a precious experience!

This weekend in the SOS Children's Village Lekenik Hermann Gmeiner Social Center we read fairy tales for twenty four hours straight.

Our children, their SOS mothers, Village co-workers and dear guests of the SOS Children's Village Croatia all gathered in the warmth and comfort of our Social Center to read to each other fairy tales as part of our Millennium Fairy Tale Read-A-Thon.
This annual event, now in its seventh year, took everyone on a journey into the land of Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, evil witches, dragons and Croatian literary heroes such as Antuntun. More than 500 friends of SOS children and young people read the fairy tales in a multitude of languages and dialects. The pleasant, instructive atmosphere was greatly enriched by video links that enabled numerous writers, artists and public figures from the fields of culture and politics to be virtually present at the event.

The Millennium Fairy Tale Read-A-Thon in the SOS Children's Village Lekenik was inspired by the desire to foster reading culture among children, to stimulate their imagination and creativity, to nurture culture of non-violence and tolerance, to improve children’s attention span and emotional intelligence and to develop their abstract and creative thinking.

Many distinguished guests appeared in the Village in person. Going on a fairy tale journey in the SOS Social Center were the representatives of local schools, representative of the Croatian Ministry of Culture Ms. Maja Zrnčić, envoy of the Deputy Minister of Culture Ms. Vesna Jurić Bulatović, Lekenik Mayor Mr. Ivica Perović, Deputy Mayor Ms. Marica Zlovolić, representatives of the society Naša djeca Lekenik with several children from the local community, representatives of the Kindergarten Buševec, two teachers and four children from the Elementary school Stari Mikanovci near Vinkovci, poet Ervin Jahić, representative of the Bosniak Cultural Society in Croatia – Preporod, child members of the Zvrk Theatre from Zagreb, poet and translator from Iran dr.
