Our co-workers know how to prevent sexual violence

The employees of the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci, SOS Youth Facility Osijek and the Mobile Team of the programme “We Help Restore the Safety of Home for Children and Families” all participated in the training “Prevention of Sexual Violence Against Young People and Among Young People”, which was held in Daruvar on February 19-20, 2016, under the auspices of the Women’s Room – Sexual Rights Centre.

The training is an integral part of the Safe from Violence project, which is being funded by the Ministry of Social Policy and Youth. Women’s Room – Sexual Rights Centre is the project leader. SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci and School of Economics and Tourist Trades Daruvar are project partners.

The training focused on types, prevalence and consequences of sexual violence, the legislation, the role of the Protocol on Responding to Cases of Sexual Violence, its guidelines and requirements for all competent bodies and institutions, and places where underage victims of sexual violence can seek help and support.

As training participants, we took active part in designing prevention workshops for children and youth, as well as educational workshops for professionals who work with children and youth, focused primarily on the issues of sexual violence and protective measures. In addition to workshops we will carry out with children and young people from the SOS and the local community, we are planning a round table in Osijek in October 2016. The goal is to raise public awareness of the problem of sexual violence and to advocate for the implementation of prevention programmes in legislation, national strategies and plans and programmes that address the upbringing and education of children and young people.
