Thanks to past hardships, Daliborka is now on top of the world!

There was a time when Daliborka Matanović believed that only bad things would happen to her. Amazingly, the 27 year-old junior investment manager from Croatia is now grateful for what she went through.

Her story has moved many people around the world, and Daliborka’s conscientiousness, responsibility and hard-working attitude have been recognized by the SOS Kinderdorf International, the umbrella organization to which Association SOS Children's Village Croatia, where Daliborka grew up, also belongs.

This year, Daliborka was nominated for the prestigious Hermann Gmeiner Award. And then she actually won it! The Hermann Gmeiner Award has been given out since 1991 in recognition of accomplished young people who became role models in their communities after leaving SOS for their social, cultural, sport, scientific and professional contributions. This successful 27-year-old young woman was roundly praised for being a great role model to young people around the world!

“Daliborka is not only an example to young people living in SOS Children’s Villages, but to all young people who face difficulties growing up. Although she went through a lot, she persevered to achieve more in life, also motivating others to achieve more“, said Mr. Josip Marinković, SOS Children’s Villages co-worker.

Daliborka will receive her award at the SOS Kinderdorf International General Assembly in Innsbruck this June. She already received heartfelt congratulations from the president of SOS Kinderdorf International, Mr. Siddhartha Kaul.

“Although it might seem strange, I am grateful for those bad moments in life. They taught me to tell good from bad, they taught me to stay realistic and down to earth and appreciate all the good values in life. I’m grateful because all of that made me strong and independent. Now, I can handle anything“, said Daliborka in conclusion, humble and proud in equal measure.
