Summer fun in Vodice

Every year after completing an exhausting school year our young people from SOS Youth Facilities in Osijek take a vacation together. This time they stayed in Vodice.

Thanks to the donation of Mr. Miljenko Karačić from Vinkovci, children and young people from SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci will be able to use a vacation house in Vodice for the next five years.

Ten young people and their educators spent eleven lovely days swimming, playing, taking evening strolls, day trips and partaking in other activities. In other words, they had a pleasant and relaxed holiday. We always use summer vacations to deepen our relationship with our young people.

All young people and educators took part in daily activities such as cleaning the house and cooking. In addition to typical summer activities such as sunbathing, swimming and eating ice cream, young people also visited the Aqua Park and rented paddle boats.

Our young people also took a day trip by ferry to the island of Prvić, famous for its Faust Vrančić Memorial Centre and beautiful beaches and coves. We took a stroll around the island from the Prvić Harbor to the village of Šepurina, enjoying the clean sea, the beautiful scenery and a lunch we all had together.

The very next day, the owner of the Aquarium and the Museum of Maritime Tradition made sure that all our youngsters could go on a free tour of both facilities and see the sea fauna from this part of the Adriatic, old fishing tools, boat models and items found at undersea archeological sites dating back from the 3rd century BC to the Middle Ages.

Everyone was very involved and contributed to our wonderful vacation in Vodice by sharing house cleaning and cooking chores, but two of our young man deserve special mention – our handyman Dražen and cook John, whose efforts ensured that everyone could enjoy the benefits of a joint vacation.

We wish summer and warm weather would last much longer than it does. A huge thank you to Mr. Karačić for making Vodice our second home over the summer.
