Kids from Ladimirevci encounter their first “fićo”

SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci welcomed some extraordinary guests on a recent sunny Sunday. A convoy of around seventy classic cars came cruising through the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci, merrily honking their horns.

The car parade officially concluded the first classic car charity rally, organized to help and support children who live in 16 SOS families in Children's Village Ladimirevci.

Members of classic car clubs from all parts of Croatia donated funds in the amount of HRK 15.300 and contributed an additional donation in kind valued at HRK 10.000,00, showing immense generosity to children without adequate parental care. The sunny day was ideal for getting together and experiencing something new.

When the Sunday sun warmed the windows in children’s rooms, it was time to prepare for the upcoming visit from friends who were arriving in much different cars than those ordinarily parked in our Children's Village. At half past noon, children and their SOS mothers set off for the amphitheater in the center of our Children's Village. The excitement level was already pretty high. We could hear the sound of engines in the distance, growing stronger by the second. When the long line of vintage motorcycles and cars entered the Children's Village, everyone started yelling as one: “Here they are!”

As the motorcade approached, the sound of car sirens greeting us mixed with the applause of our children, who were doing their best to make our guests feel welcome. Boys jumped up and down whenever they spotted a car they particularly liked while girls pointed to shiny red cars passing through. All classic cars and motorcycles were available to take children for rides. As far as we could tell, the most popular turned out to be a white Cadillac from the Đakovo Classic Car Club. One boy liked the cars on display so much he took a ride in each and every one of them and then he did the same with all the motorcycles. Drivers could see how delighted children were, so they didn’t find it difficult to drive the children around until everyone had their turn. We all had a good laugh when a brother and sister went into legendary “fićo”, an original from the 1950s modeled after the Italian Fiat 600. This particular model had doors that opened in reverse, so when it was time to get out of the car, the kids thought the doors were broken because they couldn’t open them. Fortunately, they received help quickly. For hours afterwards, they still wondered at the strange car with upside-down doors.

“Today the children who live in 16 SOS families in the Children's Village in Ladimirevci have made new friends. Their financial donation and donation in kind will help sustain the quality of care we provide in our Children's Village. We are especially grateful to the Kurbla Classic Car Club in Garešnica and their president Boro Golenko for organizing this first Classic Car Rally, in which nine classic car clubs from all over Croatia took part. SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci now counts all of them as friends and children’s laughter you hear today is the best possible reason for us to meet again. Our doors are open to you whenever you happen to be near Ladimirevci”, said the director of SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci Zoran Relić.

Who’s afraid of the dentist?

You have to brush your teeth before bedtime in the evening and after waking up in the morning – every child knows this. However, some questions still remain: proper brushing technique, which brush to use, how often should you go to the dentist. We received answers to all of these questions from dentists who visited the SOS Children's Village Lekenik.
