A hard-working and creative spring break

Spring has come to SOS Children’s Village Ladimirevci, and so has the spring break. To make the holidays more interesting for children, we welcomed many volunteers who held a diverse range of workshops.

We started with the workshop organized by the Valpovo Cultural Centre ‘Journey Into the Unknown’, designed for all ages. Our own Višnja Matić led 23 children on the exploration of the unknown. Children visited the old railway station in Ladimirevci, took a stroll on the bank of the Karašica River, rolled down the hill, played in open air, learned how to recognize edible plants and enjoy the outdoors.

At the end of the week, our children received a visit from the inventor Zlatko Stupnišek and his son Antonio. Together they played several rounds of the board game 'Sar- ringa'. This game has been designed for all school children, because it requires some writing and math skills. Many children participated, refreshing their math skills in the process. The outcome was uncertain until the very end, because everyone was equally determined to win. All competitors fought valiantly. After the game, Mr. Zlatko gave children a game set consisting of a board and rings in four colours.

The weekend began with a visit from Požega, namely Đuka Pelcl, president of the Croatian Association of CB Radio Clubs. Supported by his colleagues Mr. Antun and Filip, he held a workshop on electrical technology, airplane model making and remotely controlled drones. The latter was children’s favourite part of the workshop.

Saturday afternoon was reserved for 'Ferivi marathon', a race in which children from Ladimirevci have participated for years. This year our Dragan won second place and silver medal, which made us very happy.

Five of our children participated in the ‘International Youth Colony’ in Ernestinovo, where they expressed their creativity through art, drama and dance workshops. They had a wonderful time making new friends and mastering new skills.
