A rain-soaked birthday party

Not even a sudden spring shower could spoil children’s joy and anticipation on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci.

The big celebration was scheduled to take place on Friday, May 25. Birthday preparations began early in the morning in the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci. Aroma of freshly baked homemade rolls and cookies was wafting from the SOS houses as hard-working SOS co-workers were setting up outdoor workshops for children.

The giant cauldron for the traditional paprika beef stew attracted the biggest crowds. Our esteemed partner Lidl made sure we had enough vegetables and meat for everyone, while our young people from the SOS Youth Facility Osijek and their cook John prepared a scrumptious paprika beef stew. Still, children also flocked to the delicious barbecue prepared by our friends from the meat processing factory Ravlić d.o.o. These wonderful people, who participate in the project Croatian Volunteers, decided to give Ladimirevci residents the gift of tasty burgers prepared from prime cuts of meat.

In the official part of the programme, SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci director Zoran Relić gave the welcoming address and passed the floor to the Association SOS Children's Villages Croatia National Director Višnja Tuškan-Krupić, who congratulated us on this anniversary. Among many notable guests were the deputy county prefect of Osijek-Baranja County Goran Ivanović and Valpovo Mayor Matko Šutalo.

The official programme continued with kids from SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci performing a sketch called “Circus”, which garnered a lot of laughter and applause from the audience. It’s important to note that the sketch was created by the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci children themselves, under the guidance of the drama pedagogue Ivan Kristijan Majić. After the sketch, students of the Faculty of Teacher Education in Zadar performed four short puppet shows for children, directed by their professors. And last but not least, the official part of the celebration was closed by the great Habuda siblings on piano, violin and guitar and their talented friend Marin Bulić on vocals. These musicians performed on behalf of the charity organization Panonius.

The art colony set up by the Society of Amateur Visual Artists Likar from Osijek made sure the celebration got that special artistic touch. They created works of art during the party itself, gifting them to SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci afterwards.

Our friends from the Valpovo Centre of Technology brought their perennially popular drones and attracted a great deal of interest among the children, all of whom wanted to try their hand at controlling the drones.

The festivities continued for a long time in the beautiful setting of SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci. Cutting the Dr Oetker cake took place right before the big spring shower. Soaked with rain, but happy and well fed, we bade goodbye to Ladimirevci until the next anniversary celebration.
