Family Strengthening Programme presents its accomplishments

An interesting presentation on all the valuable projects that the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci experts ran this year as part of the Family Strengthening Program took place in the Valpovo City Hall.

Throughout 2018, SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci continued to provide the social service of counselling and supporting primary and foster families through the project “A Loving Home for Every Child”, and the social service of early intervention as part of the project “I Read Better, I Write Better, I Speak Better”.

The family counselling centre and speech therapy cabinet were active in the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci, while the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci Mobile Team worked with the families referred to them by the Social Welfare Centres in Valpovo and Našice in 22 villages and towns in the Osijek-Baranja County, which co-funded the project “A Loving Home for Every Child” in 2018 with HRK 50.000.

“The biggest accomplishment that ‘A Loving Home for Every Child’ can claim is making families self-sustainable. We had 24 such families since 2016 and in 2018 14 families left the programme because they became self-sustainable”, said Zoran Relić, the director of SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci.

The expert help of a speech therapist was provided for the children in the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci and children from the Valpovo region as part of the project “I Read Better, I Write Better, I Speak Better”, which has been fully funded by the Rotary Club Zagreb Dora, starting with March 2017 and ending in March 2019. So far, the project has reached 84 children and 95 parents. In 2018, it helped 49 children and 77 parents.

City of Valpovo has also recognized the need for early intervention in the Valpovo region. To that end, they will co-fund the work of the speech therapy cabinet from April 2019, with HRK 76.340,00.

Thanks to the co-funding by Osijek-Baranja County and the City of Valpovo, SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci will be able to continue its family strengthening activities in 2019 as well. Not only do these activities strengthen children and parents – they also help to build the capacities of the professionals in the Social Welfare Centres, elementary schools and kindergartens in the Osijek-Baranja County.
