Primroses of Papuk open the new hiking season

“Primroses of Papuk” is a synonym for fun and socializing in the outdoors and the number of hikers from the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci taking part keeps growing every year.

The time has come for the 37th Primroses of Papuk. Several years ago, four of our young people from the SOS Youth Facility in Osijek joined this hiking event, and thus paved the way for the actual hiking group in SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci, which eventually became part of the Dumina Section of the Zanatlija Hiking Society in Osijek. Back then, they had no inkling that only four years later, this hike would be attended by 28 hikers ranging in age from seven to eighteen years old.

Some are already familiar with this route, while others, experiencing their first, demanding ascent to the Velika Old Town, and the climb up the steep, sharp Tauber Rocks, conquered their first summit – Lapjak (667), earning the first hiking stamps in their Little Hiking Logbooks – Lapjak is one of the checkpoints in the Croatian Hiking Tour. Everyone was delighted and they already promised to go again next year.

In addition to being rightfully proud over conquering these trails, our nine-year-old Marijana will also remember that a brave member of the Croatian Rescue Service rescued her backpack, which rolled down a slope at one point. Everyone was glad that this was the only intervention that our famous rescue service had to undertake.

Thanks to the Zanatlija Hiking Society, the children from the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci spent an unforgettable day in the great outdoors, together with several thousand other hikers, scouts and travellers. They also had a great deal of fun socializing, because our hikers always gravitate to where the dancing and singing are. There was plenty of merriment both in the Lapjak Mountain Lodge and in the bus on the way home.
