Speech therapy for all the children in Lekenik and Glina

SOS Children's Village Lekenik will continue to implement a project of speech therapy diagnostics, treatment and counselling for all the children in the Lekenik Municipality and the Township of Glina. So far, as many as 587 children have been included in this project.

Thanks to the strong cooperation between SOS Children's Village Lekenik and the local community, on 25 March 2019 we signed a new agreement with the Sisak-Moslavina County, Lekenik Municipality and Township of Glina, which will secure the co-financing of the project I Read Better, I Write Better and I Speak Better – Programme of Early Detection of Speaking, Writing and Reading Impediments in Preschool Children.

The project has proved to be extremely helpful in regions where this kind of expert support has previously been inaccessible to general population due to the lack of speech therapy professionals, which isn’t a problem only in Sisak-Moslavina County, but also in the majority of counties in the Republic of Croatia.

That is why SOS Children's Village Lekenik launched this initiative in the Lekenik Municipality in 2014. We recognized that expert support from speech therapists is one of the key elements of early intervention, which prevents numerous difficulties that children otherwise face in later stages of development. In 2016, the project has been expanded to the Township of Glina, where it is being carried out in cooperation with the speech therapy cabinet "Reci riba".

Since the launch of the project in 2014, a total of 587 children have been included in the programme of detecting and preventing speaking, reading, and writing impediments. In 2018 alone, 187 children took part.

Attending the formal signing ceremony were Ivo Žinić, the Sisak-Moslavina County Prefect, Roman Rosavec, Deputy Prefect, Stjepan Kostanjević, Glina Mayor, Ivica Perović, Lekenik Mayor, Stjepan Kušan, President of the Lekenik Municipal Council and Mario Čović, Director of SOS Children's Village Lekenik.
