Happiness on two wheels

Our children, their SOS mothers, other SOS employees and their numerous friends all spent a sunny Saturday morning on bicycles.

The tenth SOS Bike Tour in SOS Children's Village Lekenik took the participants on a 20-kn route through the beautiful countryside along the bank of the Odra River.

The cyclists were accompanied by our handymen in cars. The handymen were responsible for safety and bicycle repairs in cases of accidents such as pedals or other bicycle parts falling off. They were also ready to give rides to anyone too tired to continue cycling, but even the youngest cyclists managed to stay on their bicycles for almost the entire route. They all returned to their friends in the Village with huge smiles on their faces.
After hopping off their bicycles, our children sat down to eat a delicious goulash prepared by our cooks and then it was time for games and other activities.

The bicycle testing range delighted our youngest kids, who proved to be a match for the older children during the races. Every second counted and everyone watched the stopwatch raptly, cheering their favourites on, but nothing elicited a bigger response than the gunny sack race. The rest of the day in Lekenik was filled with laughter and good cheer and our kids all came to the conclusion that while winning is great, having lots of carefree fun is even better.

When it was time for everyone to go home, they all said the same thing: “See you next year!”
