Our children look after the environment

The SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci hikers, both children and grown-ups, took part in the “Don’t Be A Sap, Plant A Tree” campaign, thus contributing to making Croatia greener and combating climate changes.

Last weekend 46 hikers from the SOS Children's Village Ladimirevci, children and grown-ups both, took part in the “Don’t Be A Sap, Plant A Tree” campaign, together with 130 hikers from the Zanatlija Hiking Society from Osijek and children and youth from the Dumina Club.

Gorgeous autumn day was filled with a variety of activities and new experiences. First, our hikers went on a walking tour of Baranja, following the route from Batina to Draž along the Karašica river. After that, they dug the holes and planted linden trees next to the football field in Draž.

Finally, 26 of our youngest hikers participated in the first Little Hiking School workshop, designed by the Croatian Mountaineering Association. The topic of the workshop reflected the theme of today’s hike – learning more about nature and ecology. The children learned something new about nature conservation and plants and wildlife in our forests, and they received the first stamps in their little hiking logbooks. We are already looking forward to the next month’s hike to the Stribor’s forest!
