A fairy-tale day in Lekenik

The traditional literary event Millennium Fairy Tale Readathon took place in SOS Children's Village Lekenik on 14-15 November for the eleventh year in a row.

Fairy tales and children’s stories were read non-stop for 24 hours, starting at noon on Thursday. In addition to children and employees of the SOS Children's Village, the event was also attended by numerous guests. More than 500 readers enjoyed the most beautiful stories of children, in many different languages, proving that the power of story doesn’t recognize language barriers as it brings children and grown-ups around the world together.

As in previous years, many people sent in video contributions to the Millennium Fairy Tale Readathon, including authors, artists, cultural workers, athletes, entrepreneurs, friends and donors of the SOS Children's Village and representatives of the Lekenik Municipality, Primary School Mladost in Lekenik and Lekenik Kindergarten.

As part of this year’s Readathon, we held a book launch for several picture books written for preschool and school children by author Rusmir Agačević and sculptor Dejan Pranjković. Rusmir Agačević, who is also the director of the SOS Children's Village Lekenik drama club, presented his picture books Good Manners for First Graders – a book on polite behaviour, Dragon Descendants from our Region – about domestic animals, Good Tools for Good Skills – about various professions and Our Friends the Elves – on protecting the environment.
